Welcome to BuggyChat

Scheduled daily chat occurs at 9:00 PM Eastern Time

This is an informal and un-moderated chat. The topics have been set to give people an idea of what is likely to be discussed on that evening.

Monday: Buggying 101 - Beginner Chat
Tuesday: Turbos
Wednesday: Engines and Engine Building
Thursday: Buggy Building
If you enter the chat and don't find anyone, stick around and look at the rest of the site and within a few minutes someone will usually show up. If you have your speakers turned on, you will hear a sound when someone enters.  You are expected to act like an adult while using this service. Please be polite, use common sense and remember that this is a family site. Make sure you have read the Terms of Use before entering BuggyChat.

If there is any inappropriate behavior, do a "WHOIS" on the user from the command menu and email me with the time, and the WHOIS information that you are given. This information will be immediately reported to the person's local internet provider who will then most likely cancel their internet account.

To use this chat you must be 18 years of age or be under adult supervision. Dune-Buggy.com is not responsible for any of the content in the Chat. If you have problems, read below.

If You Have Problems:

Quick Help:

  1. Netscape 4.08 (or later) or Internet Explorer 4.5 (or later)
  2. Turn Java on
  3. Update to latest Microsoft Virtual Machine when you update IE
  4. Set Security in IE to Default Level

This is a Java program and Java has it's share of problems depending on the browser you use. You will need at least Netscape 4.5 or Internet Explorer 4.0 to run BuggyChat.  Also make sure you update the Java modules. In Internet Explorer these are called "Microsoft Virtual Machine" and are in the custom options.

Internet Explorer allows users to modify its Internet Security Setting, if you are not using the default security setting and/or disable the support of signed applets, BuggyChat may not work properly. If this is the case, revert the IE security to the default medium level.

The latest version of Internet Explorer can be found here.

If you encounter any errors please let me know at admin@dune-buggy.com. Also tell me what type of computer you have (PC or Mac), the Name and version of the browser you are using, what you were doing, and the exact message you got.

Etiquette

1) Language

The most widely understood and spoken language on IRC is English. However! As IRC is used in many different countries, English is by no means the only language. If you want to speak some other language than English (for example with your friends), go to a separate channel and set the topic (with /topic) to indicate that. For example /topic Finnish only! would mean that this channel would be reserved for Finnish discussion. On the other hand, you should check the topic (with /list command)  before you move to a channel to see if there are any restrictions about language. On a channel not restricted by /topic, please speak a language everybody can understand. If you want to do otherwise, change channels and set the topic accordingly.

2) Hello/Goodbye

It's not necessary to greet everybody on a channel personally. Usually one "Hello" or equivalent is enough. And don't expect everybody to greet you back. On a channel with 20 people that would mean one screenful of hellos. It's sensible not to greet, in order not to be rude to the rest of the channel. If you must say hello, do it with a private /msg. The same applies to goodbyes.
