Aircooled VW Engine Interchange Manual
Aircooled VW Engine Interchange Manual - This book fills the hi-perfomance gap that the other bug engine books miss. The Books like "How to Rebuild a VW" will tell you specifically what bolts to undo and what to measure. The "How to Hotrod" book gets into the specifics about what the various mods do for your horsepower. This book takes all that and tells you what products are available and gives you a general idea about how to choose between them. If you want to win the races, it should be the third bug engine book you buy.

Desktop Dynos: Using Computers to Build and Test Engines
Desktop Dynos: Using Computers to Build and Test Engines - If you're planning to build an engine, consider reading this book before you start picking parts. It's loaded with theory and science on wave tuning, cam design, engine geometry and more; and it explains how these factors are used in software simulation of an engine.

Home Dyno Software - Home Dyno ($40) A "software only" solution designed for the "do-it-yourselfer". There are instructions on this page on how to order an inductive pickup and wire it to a recording device. The recorded "sound" is then converted to a WAV file by loading the sound into your PC via a sound card. The software then performs an analysis on the WAV file to calculate engine HP/torque. These are real HP and Torque numbers and can be quite accurate.

The homemade dyno and rolling road page - How to make your own rolling road dyno. In theory, an inertia dyno is the easiest to build, as you are measuring the acceleration of a large flywheel or drum. The key is in the software and the data aquisition side, making this more of a software problem rather than a mechanical one.

Nate's VW Engine Building Tips - These pages chronicle the build-up of my 1776cc engine for my 1966 E-Z Camper. The main purpose of these pages is to provide first time builders with some basic insight into the correct building of an air-cooled, VW (type 1 or 2) based, up-right engine. It's VERY intimidating for those who have never attempted this before to jump right in and get greasy for the first time, so my hope is to help de-mystify the whole process and possibly answer a few of your questions as well as provide encouragement. With a job like this, it's easy to get overwhelmed if it's looked at as one whole job. ...
