Creating a Banner

Quick Specs: Banners should be under 16K bytes maximum in size and 468x60 pixels. Generally speaking though they should be under 10K in size if possible. The smaller it is, the faster it will load and the more people will see it. Animated banners are fine and could further increase your click rate.

Option 1: FREE Banners

Adobe Online Services - (5 Stars) Very nice online interface to make banners. You can add graphics, shadows, and even optimize the banner for quick download (save for web). It's a very slick site and fun to use once you get the hang of it. The banner below was done with the adobe site in about 15 minutes. (FYI: 1 out of 36 people click on it)

Animation Online has several styles and a very simple interface. In 5 minutes you could be uploading a banner here.

This banner was done with animation online.

Online Gif Optimizer: Once you have a banner it's always a good idea to make the byte size as small as possible. This makes it faster to download. The Adobe site above has a built-in interface called "save for web" or you can use MediaBuilder GifOptimizer.

Option 2:
Inexpensive Artists $50-$75

Unless you have graphic art skills you may be better off paying someone to do a banner for you. They know the tricks to make a banner that people will click on while keeping the size small.

I have worked with both of the companies below. They do good work and are reasonably priced. Both of the banners below are in various stages of completion. It usually takes several emails back and forth before everything is perfect.

Option 3:
Madison Avenue Ad Agencies

Feel like spending $1200-$2000 for a banner? I didn't think so.
